February 1: Challenge launches – start fundraising and sharing your page.
February 1 – March 17: Camp Challenge is active. Keep fundraising – we’re here to help with social media posts, copy-and-paste email content, motivation, surprises, and answers to all your questions.
What are we raising money for?
The challenge is an opportunity to raise funds to help make Young Life camp possible in a specific region of Africa or the Middle East.
What is our goal?
Our overall goal is $676,400. See each region page for regional team goals.
Why are we doing a crowdfunding campaign?
Crowdfunding is a method of fundraising that leverages your networks and works best when you share, share, and share again. Did you know? 75% of family and friends are more likely to donate when asked by someone they know. Boom!
What is Crowdrise?
Crowdrise is the website we will use to execute this year’s Camp Challenge. It will allow us to create an umbrella campaign, and then our fundraisers (that’s YOU!) can create personal and customized pages tied to the big challenge.
Will you help me with my fundraising goal?
Throughout the 45-day Camp Challenge you will receive 7-8 communications emails. We will provide pre-written email copy for you, tips on how to share the Young Life Africa/ME story via email and social media, pictures and encouragement. Also, check out this helpful info from Crowdrise. We are thrilled to have you onboard for this campaign and are committed to doing everything we can to help you succeed. This challenge is also a great time for you to share your personal connection to Young Life in Africa or the Middle East. Have you traveled there? Share your experience! Why do you support Young Life Africa/ME? People want to know! Definitely use the information we provide, but we encourage you to personalize it in anyway too!
How do I get a tax receipt for my donation?
Crowdrise sends all donors a tax receipt via email. “Young Life” will appear on a donor’s credit card statement.
How should I instruct donors to make a donation?
Share your personal page URL via email, social network, text… whatever method of communication works best for you and the people you are asking to contribute a donation. Visit your page and copy the URL for your custom page. Once a donor lands on your specific page, they should click the red “Donate Now” button to begin the very straightforward process of donating.
NEW this year! Text to donate.
Donors can easily give to your campaign via text. Tell them to text YLAfricaME to 55678 to receive the donation link. Ask them to type your name and the region you are raising funds for in the notes so that we can add the gift to your page and accurately track your goal progress. Easy!
Do I have to donate to Crowdrise/cover the fees associated with my donation?
No. Before confirming a donation, Crowdrise will provide an on-screen summary of your donation, plus the option for the donor to cover the fees. A donor can choose to cover the fee or have the fee taken out of their donation. The process is very transparent and the donor has complete control over whether they choose to cover the fee or not. Crowdrise provides Young Life Africa/ME with a fantastic service and we gladly cover fees when donors choose not to.
What if someone wants to write a check, instead of using Crowdrise?
Great, Young Life accepts checks! And, we can add it to your campaign, so it still shows up on your Crowdrise page. Ask your donor to make the check out to Young Life with XD410 – Camp in “region name” along with YOUR NAME and mail it to Young Life Africa, PO Box 70065 Prescott, AZ 86304. Confirm that Young Life Africa/ME has received the check with Alyssa Alderman at email@example.com. Then go to your Crowdrise page, click “Manage.” Under your picture you will see a blue button, “Add Offline Donations.” Enter the information there and click “Save”.
