Mathou is thoughtful, diligent and inspiring. He began his walk with the Lord in 1998, when a friend invited him to church. There, he heard the gospel presented for the first time and accepted Jesus into his heart. Since then, his love for God continues to grow, and he is thankful for the ways that He continues to change him. A trained attorney, Mathou worked with friends to start Young Life in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and is now the Regional Director in DRC. The DRC is a difficult place to live and do ministry due to political instability and violence. It takes courage and perseverance. As Mathou says, “God is using Young Life to transform our country.” Despite the danger and risk, Mathou trains staff and leaders in the Great Lakes region which includes the DRC, Rwanda and Burundi. Mathou is married to Nyota, a gifted vocalist who recently sang at a concert to raise funds for Bibles to give to Young Life kids in the DRC. They have two children.
