Mona’s Story – Congo Brazzaville
Mona, a college student at the University of Kinshasa, attended an Islamic school in Eastern Congo Brazzaville because her family was faithful to Islam. She never really felt a connection. Curious about Christianity, but could never explore it because of her family’s rules. While watching a documentary about Islam she learned that Muslims were willing to sacrifice Christians in the name of their faith. Mona had already taken some time away from attending the mosque, but this was the last straw.
Shortly after, Mona’s friend, Golvie, told her about a group called Young Life College. There was an club happening soon, and since Mona was free that day she agreed to go. When she got there, everyone welcomed her! At first she felt uneasy when hearing the name of Jesus, knowing that her family would not like it. During the course of the meeting, she heard that salvation is a gift and includes a personal relationship with Jesus. Mona felt the Holy Spirit in her heart and knew she was ready to follow. She prayed with the believers around her and asked Jesus to be the Lord of her life.
Mona started attending a local church and with great courage revealed her new Christian faith to her family, with the exception of her father, who was traveling. Mona’s hope is that he will accept the news and be touched by the love of Jesus Christ in the same way that she has.
