A Season For Giving in DRC

As the year comes to an end and activity slows down to prepare us for the festive season, most Young Life leaders take this as an opportunity to look around us and serve our community. Volunteers in each community put together their own money and resources in order to find practical ways to meet the physical needs of those in need. Our team in the Democratic Republic of Congo took some time to reach out to two groups of people; teenagers at an Orphanage and Prisoners.

They brought them essential food items, clothes, and medical supplies. More importantly, they used this as an opportunity to share the Gospel of Christ with them. While at the prison, the team from Young Life Sud Kivu had the opportunity to share the gospel with the prisoners, one of the men they met there goes by the name Guelord. When Guelord was presented with the opportunity to give his life to Jesus, he hesitated several times. Eventually, he finally asked the question that has been bothering him; “Can Jesus Christ forgive even a man who has committed murder?”. Guelord was put in jail for accidentally murdering his friend who owed him $5,  he has lived every day since then full of guilt and thoughts of suicide. The team shared with him the gospel of forgiveness and the hope that await him in Christ Jesus, Guelord repented and gave him life to Jesus! “You have just saved my life!” Guelord thanked the team.

The Lord used the generosity efforts to bring 6 prisoners and 1 girl from the orphanage into his kingdom! May we all be encouraged this season to take advantage of every opportunity, big or small to show the love of Christ to those around us. Have a Merry Christmas.
