Alexis Kwamy – Africa South

Alexis was born in the Democratic Republic of Congo, but his family fled from rebel groups and later reunited in a refugee camp in Uganda. Alexis attended university in Kenya where he was introduced to Young Life. He then started Young Life in a difficult neighborhood of Arusha, Tanzania near Mt. Kilimanjaro, meeting kids on their turf despite opposition and danger. He was one of the original five leaders who began Young Life in Africa and is known for his gift of music and worship. In 2019, Alexis was promoted to be the first vice president of Africa South, overseeing ministry in Tanzania, Zanzibar, Rwanda, Burundi, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Malawi, Mozambique, Eswatini and South Africa. In this role, Alexis supervises the established geography, provides hands-on supervision and leadership development of staff, casts vision, and works to develop new areas.
