Alexis Kwamy – Africa South
Vice President Africa South
Alexis Kwamy is originally from the Democratic Republic of Congo, where his family fled from rebel groups, was separated and eventually reunited in a refugee camp in Uganda. Through the help of a Swiss family, Alexis attended Daystar University in Kenya where he was connected to Young Life. He was one of the original five leaders who began Young Life ministry in Africa and is known for his amazing gift of music and worship and bringing lost kids to Jesus. He started Young Life in one of the most difficult neighborhoods in Arusha, Tanzania near the base of Mt. Kilimanjaro, meeting kids on their turf despite opposition and danger.
In 2019, Alexis was promoted to be the first vice president of Africa South, overseeing current ministry in Tanzania, Zanzibar, Rwanda, Burundi, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Malawi, Mozambique, eSwatini and South Africa. In this role, Alexis supervises the established geography and provides more hands-on supervision and leadership development of staff. He casts vision and works to develop ministry in new areas and countries.
Alexis lives with his wife Jacqueline and two daughters in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. He has a lively spirit, infectious laugh and tremendous heart for God.
