Angelo Jorge Sarnete – Mozambique
Angelo has a story of deep struggle and confusion that has been redeemed as he has come to know the person of Christ. In early childhood, Angelo was unable to attend school due to documentation complications. Because of this, he was intensely bullied by the kids in his neighborhood because of his lack of education.
Eventually Angelo was able to start going to school, but the bullying continued. He was deeply ashamed at being the oldest kid in his class, and considered dropping out many times. Angelo also became increasingly rebellious and angry at school.
When Angelo was 17, he met a Young Life intern while doing work crew. This friend started inviting Angelo to club with him, and thus Young Life events and bible studies became a regular routine in Angelo’s life. In 2011, Angelo decided to accept Christ as his Lord and Savior.
Angelo continued to grow and learn from God as well as from Young Life. In 2014 he had the opportunity to study physics with the Developing Global Leader (DGL) scholarship. While a DGL student, he served as a volunteer leader at the Chimoio club. Six months later, he started a club at his university, which has now grown to have 40 volunteer leaders. Angelo currently lives in Manica and continues ministry in the city of Chimoio as an area director.
