Costa Mtweve – Tanzania/Zanzibar
Regional Director
Costa was born into a Christian family in a predominantly Muslim area of the world: Zanzibar. Throughout his life his family was faced with persecution because of their Christian faith, but Costa has not lost his positive outlook. He is a true light that shines in darkness wherever he is. He continually says “I am proud of having my Lord Jesus with me: I always ask myself: ‘If it weren’t for your love, where would I be?’” When he turned 22, a friend of his asked him to go to a Young Life club and he fell quickly in love with the style of ministry. It wasn’t long before he chose to join in and start leading.
After moving from Zanzibar to Dar es Salaam, Costa was connected with Mama Irene and ministry locally where he would continue to be involved. From there, Costa was accepted into the DGL program and he pursued his dreams to become an educated civil engineer. He moved to Mbeya, Tanzania for University where he studied for three years while simultaneously working hard to establish YL Ministry in Mbeya city. Costa gives all the glory to God as ministry took off and by 2015 he graduated as a civil engineer. At this point Alexis Kwamy, at that time the Young Life Tanzania director, saw fit that Costa step into a logistics position within Young Life. He now serves tirelessly as the regional director in both Tanzania and his home country Zanzibar, and pursues kids for Christ in a dark place.
