Rogers grew up in a Christian family. He attended church regularly, went to gospel crusades and Scripture Union events, but did not come to fully understand his relationship with Jesus until he attended a worship service at a different church later in life. He shares “I finally understood my salvation was paid once and for all, through the death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ.” Rogers was introduced to Young Life by Steve Larmey, and his mentor and sponsor Tim Kruetter (Director of Cornerstone Development Africa). Steve told him about Young Life through a phone call and he loved everything he said and wanted to be a part of it. Then he set up a meeting for him and Simon. He said Simon came to the meeting in the “most casual wear you could ever imagine,” it took the pressure off of him because he was intimidated to meet the director of an organization. He was smartly dressed in a suit like a job interview, but it turned out to be just an outing with a new friend. Then in November of 2011, he got the chance to attend a “Hands on Training” (HOT) in Nairobi where he was officially welcomed into ministry. “In Young Life, I am a bookkeeper and also administrator, my number one role is give meaning to the works of many Young Life leaders here in Uganda through numbers. I also take pressure off them regarding other legal requirements, so they can concentrate on loving kids and reaching out to the lost. However, with any little time I have left, I like to hang out with kids in my town to share with them the good news and introduce them to a ministry where they will find love and support.”
