Lumen Jacobs Okalang* – Uganda

Young Life College/University Director

While growing up, Lumen was expected to attend church with his family, so he knew Jesus from a young age. His father, Simon Peter Okiria, introduced him to Jimmy, a local Young Life leader, and the two became friends. Jimmy was planning the first Young Life camp in Uganda and invited Lumen to attend. At camp, Lumen learned how to be a disciple for Christ and was excited to continue attending Campaigners sessions back at home. Quickly after, he went through leader training and developed a deep joy for volunteering with Young Life, which he did faithfully for nine years. Today, Lumen is the coordinator for Young Life College/University in Uganda. For four years, college ministry had been dormant, but Lumen has been able to rebuild and develop 68 college clubs across the country.
