As the team of Africa-based communications specialists in Young Life Africa, we have the privilege of being with Young Life leaders as they do ministry. We love seeing firsthand the transformational ministry that is taking place across the continent. As the saying goes, seeing is believing. To that end, we would like to share some of our favorite photographs we have taken recently and why we were drawn to the moment.
Belinda – Africa East
This photo represents the presence of God who is with us when we gather together to study scripture. As these college students in Uganda gathered to share the word of God, all I could think of was the scripture in Matthew 18:20 — “Where two or three are gathered in my name, I am present.”
Bonded in Christ, there is nothing like a friendship that has been formed at Young Life camp. These girls met at camp for the first time and they formed a great friendship by the end of camp. I love seeing kids have fun in Christ.
Zubah – Africa West
I recently had the opportunity to attend the Young Life Africa West retreat for students who are part of the Developing Global Leaders (DGL) scholarship program.
Although everyone came from a different country, we still came together and shared the word of God together using the Discovery Bible Study method.
For most of them, it was their first time meeting someone from another country, which made the entire experience even more memorable.
Diana – Africa South
Isaac in Dar Es Salaam uses soccer to reach out to teenagers around him. Isaac comes alive on the soccer pitch and uses his passion to coach teenagers in his neighborhood. One thing that makes Young Life a wonderful place to be is the people.
I loved participating in this team meeting with Tecla (holding the book) and her new leaders in training. Team meetings are a time to check in with each other, study scripture, and have fun while we prepare for the new week of ministry. The making of an effective Young Life club starts with a team meeting like this one.
Every time I see Young Life leaders with teenagers, it makes me wish I had had one when I was in high school. Praise God for the adults who care and love teenagers enough to enter their world, learn their ways, and walk with them through some of life’s most defining moments.
We are inspired by the stories of people in the Bible whose testimonies remind us of God’s faithfulness. As we tell the stories of what God has done in the lives of leaders and teenagers, we love showing it through the lens of photography.
