Outreach Camp in Malawi

July 28 – August 30, 2018

Young Life camp is a place where relationships are formed for a lifetime. A place where kids from all different neighborhoods, families and walks of life gather in one place to play and experience Christ’s love in community with one another. This July, 141 kids and leaders arrived at camp eager to play silly games, laugh and hear the gospel message in the town of Zomba. Here are a few stories from kids that left camp with life-changing experiences.

“Bright who is a leader in Zomba mentors a kid named Vincent. Before coming to Young Life camp and giving his life to Christ he thought that all people who died (believers and non-believers) go to heaven. His dad told him that it’s possible to pray on behalf of those who have died for God to have mercy upon their soul so that they may enter heaven. At camp the speaker gave a club message which included John 3:16 and Romans 6: 23, which says ‘for the wages of sin is death but Gods free gift is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.’ During cabin time Bright when on to read from Romans 10: 9 ‘if you confess with your mouth that Jesus Christ is Lord and believe in your heart that God resurrected him from the dead you will be saved,’ and Vincent finally understood that salvation is confessing your sins and having faith in Christ Jesus. Vincent finally decided to give his life to Christ!”

“Memory has been walking with seven girls and finally got to take them to camp. Of those seven, two of those girls are Muslims; they thought that Jesus Christ is a prophet just like Mohammed, not God in flesh. However, after a club talk about creation, one of the Muslim girls came to Memory and told her that she hopes that others may know and understand the truth that Jesus is Lord and not a prophet; that he is the creator and was there in the beginning and through him all things were created. She hopes that she can have enough courage to share what she has heard at camp with her Muslim friends so that they too can be free.”

“Winston had a violent past and has problems managing his anger because of it. As a result, he would get into physical fights and has repeatedly spent nights in police cells. Then, club was introduced at his local school and he was hesitant to go, but eventually was convinced by a leader to attend just one club- he was hooked. He came to camp and was so surprised how the work crew served him. He heard that God accepts us with our faults and weaknesses and wants to reconcile with us no matter our past. He was touched by this message and it moved him to give his life to Christ. He prays that as he walks with his leader he may find his new identity in Him and may be liberated from his anger.”

Through this camp, these kids and 65 others were able to experience Christ’s transformative love through Christian community and offer their lives to Him. The Christian life was never meant to be walked alone, and we are thankful for camps like this that allows students and leaders to link arms and be mutually encouraged in their faiths.
