Nigeria One-Day Camp: Lagos

August 11, 2016

This August held the first ever Young Life camp in Nigeria, with 100 kids from three different areas in attendance! Praise God for gathering together 43 girls, 25 leaders and 36 Muslims to for fun, fellowship and gospel teaching. Alkana is a Muslim girl who nervously agreed to attend this camp. She was 10 years old when her father abandoned her and her four siblings. Before he left, Alkana rarely saw her father at all, and when she did, he was drunk and abusive. After he left, her mother tried to care for her and her brothers without a job, but eventually sent them away to work as servants in a stranger’s home. Here, Alkana was abused and exploited. She felt completely alone, completely hopeless, until she came to Young Life. Here, she experienced love and care from her leaders, and found hope in Jesus Christ. Now, Alkana and 82 other kids said yes to Jesus, and are walking with Him. We are so thankful for the transformative power of the gospel, and for the Lord’s continued love, grace and mercy in the lives of our Nigerian friends.
