Zanzibar Outreach Camp
June 14-16, 2016
This past June, over 300 kids from Zanzibar gathered together for fun, friendship, competition and most importantly, to hear the life-changing gospel of Jesus Christ. The Lord even brought 178 Muslims, 121 girls, 12 kids with disabilities and 20 orphans together to join a community that seeks to love like Him. Abasi was one who desperately needed this community; she is a 17-year-old girl whose mother died, father is imprisoned, and stepmother is abusive.
Abasi and her sister were forced to run away from home, but without any way to provide for themselves, had to work as prostitutes. Her sister, now sick with HIV/AIDS, encouraged Abasi to seek a better way of life, and by God’s miraculous timing Abasi met her Young Life leader. At camp, Abasi heard the gospel for the first time, and instantly gave her life to Christ. While she is returning home to a life that is anything but easy, she now has the Young Life community and the strength of the Holy Spirit that will guide her to continue seeking the Lord. Praise God, who is able to redeem even the darkest situations, and bring 220 new believers to Him through this Zanzibar Camp.
