Jennifer Akurut – Uganda

Area Director

Jennifer grew up in a polygamous, Muslim family. Her mother, a Christian, refused to convert, so her father divorced her when Jennifer was a toddler. In 2005, she attended Young Life and experienced genuine love and community for the first time. She was drawn in by the games, songs and skits but stayed because of the love she received. She started reading the Bible and was convinced of its truth; she converted to Christianity and changed her name from Hadijah to Jennifer to symbolize her new life in Christ. However, when her father found out, she was disowned. Jennifer started Young Life in the Teso region of eastern Uganda because of its impact on her life. Now, Jennifer is an area director in Mbale, Uganda and loves kids with the love of Christ.
