Mugote is a committed Area Director for Young Life in the Democratic Republic of Congo. He loves working with a team to serve others, especially when it comes to reaching kids for the gospel. Mugote got involved as a kid in Young Life in 2007, and started volunteering as a leader in 2008. It was at his first Young Life camp in DRC that Mugote accepted Jesus Christ as the Savior of his life. Mugote was born in Uvira, DRC – a city located at the extreme north end of Lake Tanganyika. Here, he was born into a polygamous family and his mother was one of three wives. At the age of ten, his parents left him and his three little brothers behind as they fled the war. The boys were then brought by the armed forces of the revolution to serve in the army. Mugote remembers his childhood as painful, especially how he struggled to care for his younger brothers at such a young age himself. While it was difficult, Mugote says “God was close” and it gave him a new perspective on life. During Young Life Bible study, Mugote came across Philippians 4:12-13, which says: “I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do all this through him who gives me strength.” He carries this verse with him everywhere. Now, Mugote serves in Bukavu, DRC and oversees 20 neighborhood clubs (each averaging about 60 kids per week), two WyldLife clubs, two high school clubs and almost 200 volunteer leaders. We are so thankful for Mugote’s story, his contentment in every situation and his continued reliance on the Lord.
