Beira Outreach Camp
July 1-2, 2017
At the beginning of July, 83 kids gathered in the Beira region of Mozambique for a weekend full of games and conversations. As the kids were given the chance to simply be kids and take a break from their everyday stresses, they laughed, cried, sang and danced. During club, kids listened to the camp speaker deliver messages about the Gospel. One of the kids, Sam, had struggled with drugs and alcohol as he regularly drank and did drugs with one of his close friends, Benoni. After a while, Sam decided to stop drinking and doing drugs, but Benoni would not stop. Sam tried to convince his friend to live a healthier lifestyle, but Benoni did not want to. One day, Benoni tried to talk to Sam, but Sam did not want to talk as he was tired of Benoni’s constant need for help and lack of change. Benoni committed suicide later that day causing Sam to struggle with guilt for several years. Through the club talks, Sam learned about God’s grace, mercy and love. He accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior and was able to rid himself of guilt and shame.
“He accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior and was able to rid himself of guilt and shame.”
Just like Sam, 34 other kids gave their lives to Christ that weekend. Though they all have different stories, they are now all brothers and sisters in Christ. Praise the Lord for the ways He is using Young Life in Mozambique to change the lives of kids, leaders and staff.
