Cathy Okurotho – Uganda
Cathy is a friendly, down-to-earth, adventurous spirit with a passion for prayer. While she grew up in a Christian family, she met the Lord personally in 2002 as a teenager. Both of Cathy’s parents died when she was young, which resulted in a very painful childhood. She struggled a lot and often times thought it would be a lot easier to give up and end her life. Since her parents had died it was very challenging for Cathy to find funds for her to go to school. She prayed daily that God would provide her with a way to attend school. She applied for a scholarship and by the grace of God, she was the first student at her university to ever receive a full scholarship, and was able to attend school free of charge. It was after this huge answer to prayers that Cathy began faithfully following Christ. Soon after this one of her friend who served as a Young Life leader invited her to Young Life club. It was here that she learned how to do contact work, and then went to camp for the first time with kids from her community. She now serves as an area director in Masaka, Uganda, where she is in charge of five different clubs, each with about 30-50 kids a week.
