Hirut Berassa – Ethiopia

Regional Director & Director of Women's Ministries

Hirut started her personal relationship with Jesus at age 12, while in Sunday school. At this moment, Hirut felt like she saw Jesus as real and personable. In 2000, Hirut heard about Young Life and knew she wanted to serve within the ministry. Since then, Hirut has been pioneering Young Life in new towns outside of Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia. With the Lord’s help, she has built these ministries from the ground up by meeting church leaders, finding others to pray alongside her, hanging out with kids, and meeting parents. Not content with simply seeing converts, Hirut’s passion is to create as many disciples as possible. Hirut is a regional director, and recently she also became the director of women’s ministries for Young Life in all of Ethiopia. In this new role, she empowers girls to embrace their God-given identity that is found in Him.
