Before joining Young Life, Sonny struggled to understand what a relationship with Jesus meant for him. While attending a crusade, he finally understood the loving relationship that God wanted with him and accepted Him. Because of the impact that this crusade had on him, Sonny continued to stay involved and helped out with other crusade events. While serving as an usher, the speaker of the crusade, Randy, saw the way that Sonny interacted with young people there and gave him the vision of leading Young Life. After hearing about the mission of Young Life, Sonny was excited to join the ministry. Today, Sonny is an area director in Kakamega, Western Kenya where he oversees ministry in six neighborhoods.
