Northern and Central Liberia Outreach Camp

This May, 308 kids gathered in Gbarnga, Liberia, for an incredible weekend with Young Life. Many lives were impacted: during the camp, 189 kids and 5 Muslims decided to commit their lives to Christ. Here are two stories from the camp:

Nathaniel

Nathaniel is a high school kid who just attended the just ended Young Life camp in Gbarnga. This has been his first Young Life camp experience. At the camp, he told his leader, Francis, what had happened to him during the time of silent night. He said his encounter with Christ in his last night at camp made him realize that his life is in danger if he does not recognize and accept Christ. That was a moment in which he struggled; his talk with anyone in that point in time was difficult.

Many times Nathaniel had turned down invitations to visit Young Life clubs whenever he comes in contact with YL Leaders. He narrated his past story as being dangerous. “Later did I know the Lord was in search of me,” said Nathaniel.

Tamba

Many kids who grew up in what is described as interior part of Liberia were brought up in different beliefs and traditions of their parents. Tamba is believed to be a witchcraft because of her mother’s in traditional practices. Her mother believes she (Tamba) will take her place when is old and unable to perform. But Tamba did not see this as an opportunity to replace her mother as witchcraft, instead she had accepted to walk in the footsteps of Jesus Christ. Tamba had recognized that there is a bigger God than the god of her mother and promised not to inherit her mother’s false traditional course. This is an important step for Tamba but an open challenge for her mother who will see this as a disconnection and disappointment.

We have to pray for Tamba, Nathaniel and the many other kids who had openly declared their interests to follow the Lord and journey with him forever.
