Mozambique Outreach Camp

August 13-14, 2016

Mozambique hosted its first outreach camp of the summer in Maputo, and over 76 kids were in attendance. These kids from Northwest High School gathered together to play games, sing songs, dance and most importantly, to hear the word of God. For three Muslims, this was the first time they had ever heard the gospel of Jesus, and we praise God for the opportunity to share truth with all kids in attendance. Over 30 girls were also able to attend, including seven female leaders.

One of these girls was Akila, who started attending Young Life for the academic help. But there she met Celeste, a Young Life leader who offered her sincere friendship and the two began to meet regularly. After camp, Akila realized her need to grow spiritually, and asked Celeste to disciple her. We are so excited for the ways Akila continues to grow in her faith!

Shakil didn’t want to come to camp at all – he anticipated it being one of the worst weekends of his life. But after experiencing genuine friendship and love from leaders at camp, as well as fun games and activities, Shakil decided Young Life camp was actually the best weekend of his life. At the end of camp, he had been changed by the gospel, and dedicated his life to Christ. We are so thankful for Akila and Shakil and the 52 other kids who chose to follow Jesus at camp!
