Uganda summary

Situated in east-central Africa, west of Kenya and east of the Democratic Republic of Congo, lies the tropical country of Uganda. The colonial boundaries created by Britain to delimit Uganda grouped together a wide range of ethnic groups with different political systems and cultures, complicating the establishment of a working political community after independence was achieved in 1962. Dictatorial regimes, guerrilla warfare and human rights abuses characterize much of Uganda’s recent history. The primarily agricultural region has one of the youngest and most rapidly growing populations in the world, and Uganda has been both a source of refugees and migrants as well as a host country for refugees.

Young Life in Uganda has continued to share the Gospel of Jesus since its beginning in 2005. Every week, an average of over 65,000 kids attend outreach clubs, and over 17,000 attend campaigner groups. With 45 national staff members and 578 ministries, the future looks bright for Young Life in Uganda. Many former Young Life kids are now stepping up and becoming Young Life leaders as Leadership Trees continue to grow.
